Vision
In relationship based on respect, reciprocity, and renewal, to articulate and demonstrate what it means to be a good Treaty partner, and to implement reparations in all its forms.
Purpose
Share the Gifts – Honour the Treaties exists to build pathways for non-Indigenous peoples to engage in their obligations under Treaty by making financial contributions to a fund, the spending of which is controlled by Indigenous people. It will:
- Provide education for non-Indigenous peoples to learn about their roles in Treaty relationships;
- Provide opportunities for non-Indigenous peoples to begin to honour the Treaties and participate in those roles in tangible ways; and
- Provide opportunities for building relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Guiding Documents
We are guided by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: ‘Recognizing the urgent need to respect and promote the inherent rights of Indigenous Peoples …affirmed in treaties, agreements and other constructive arrangements with states’ (preliminary statements in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action 45, 46 and 61. Specifically, these Calls include the need for renewal of nation-to-nation Treaty relationships and the establishment of funding for Indigenous-controlled projects working towards recovery from colonial impacts and resurgence of Indigenous cultures.
As noted in the Calls for Justice in the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, Share the Gifts-Honour the Treaties recognizes that Indigenous self-determination and “substantive equality” are necessary in order to address the historical disadvantages, intergenerational trauma, and discrimination experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people, in particular. “Solutions should stem from Indigenous communities and Nations, and… these solutions must be prioritized and sustainably and equitably resourced” (172). Therefore, we affirm these Calls for Justice are the responsibility of all of us to act upon and implement as a part of reparation and Treaty partnership.
Accountability
We will continue to post links to our AGM Reports here, including financial statements, for the broader community to keep us accountable. We also continue our ongoing process of consulting Elders and Indigenous community members about the appropriate use and distribution of funds given to Share the Gifts, about development of this work, as well as our group’s relationship with money.
